How My Lotto Tipping of a Waiter Drove a Millionaire Real Estate Investor Tightwad Crazy
Dear Friend,
We set up a Lot of Joint Ventures. Mostly over the phone and internet. But Sometimes we meet with two Business owners for Lunch. Explain how they might help each other.
So I meet two guys for lunch at a Restaurant. While they are Talking "Business" I focus on making sure I don't Starve.
I try to eat Vegetarian.
Which is NOT EASY in the USA. American LUV their Meat.
And have you seen the tiny little Dishes The Veggie "Sides" come in? A person could STARVE.
But NOBODY Cares About You.
NOBODY is Watching.
OTHER PEOPLE are thinking ME -- ME -- ME.
So I USE that TOTAL BLINDNESS to My Advantage.
Here's an Example:
While the 2 guys are chatting At The Restaurant Table -- I ask the Waiter. "How Many cooks in the Kitchen today?"
5.
I hand him a Lotto Ticket. And Say, "Ok. Here is a Lotto ticket for you. And one for All 5 cooks in the Kitchen. Please Give them out for me, ok?"
And
Each
Time
Gary-the-Waiter came to our Table I Thank Rewarded him with another Lotto Ticket.
I Spent about 7 bucks on a Plate of Onion Rings and a Plate of Sweet Potato Fries. Because I Tipped The Waiter and Cooks I got Huge Plates full. Instead of those tiny dishes.
Mr Real Estate Investor/Tightwad ordered "Unlimited Soup and Salad."
But Somewhere Along the way he notices MY WAITER has Brought me 3 Bowls of Soup. On top of my Veggies.
Clarence Protests, "Hey, Hey. What is going on here?"
I Explained That I Tipped the cooks and Our waiter so I would Get More Veggies. And The Waiter offered to Bring me some Soup too.
So
I
Said
"YES."
Clarence Spent 15 bucks And 2.00 for Iced Tea. -- TOTAL of 17.00 Plus tip
I Spent 7 on food. 5 for the cooks. 4more for the waiter. Total -- 16.00
Clarence Snatched The Receipt out of my hand.
And Said Accusingly.
"You spent less than I Did but Got MORE FOOD."
I laughed While The second man watched with interest. And looked at HIS bill for 27.95
"Relax" I told Clarence.
"You Could Have Tipped the Cooks and The Waiter like I did. And Probably gotten more food."
Clarence says, "I Can't afford to do that."
Paid his bill. Got up from the Table. And Walked out.
Tail END OF THE STORY.
Bill, the 2nd Business owner Said, "Can You stay behind a couple Minutes? I'd Like to Talk to You Glenn."
"Sure."
And Bill Took out a Pen and Notebook. Took notes while he Asked me Questions about THE REASON I Was Giving Away Lotto Tickets.
Bill was Shocked to Discover that, IN MY OPINION, The Competition I got Going Between The cooks, the Waiter and Clarence -- is What Helped make Andrew Carnegie The First Billionaire.
Carnegie had hundreds of "Competition Type" Systems running all over his Steel Mills.
Salesman Got REWARDS.
Managers got Rewarded.
Even The Guys Sweeping Floors Got their Work Measured and Rewarded.
I got Proof!
One of those Sweepers who wielded a Broom Was Young Charlie Schwab. He Did So Much Extra. Contributed so many New Ideas -- He Got Promoted.
Again and Again.
Over and over. Until Charles Schwab was RUNNING all of Andrew Carnegies Steel Mills. President of Carnegie Steel.
Plus Carnegie Gave him a BONUS of a Million Or more Each Year. On top of His Huge Salary.
Carnegie Said, "I can't Afford Not to Reward Charlie. He Does So Much More Work than What he Gets Paid for. I have to give him a Big Bonus. I don't want him to leave and work for a Competitor."
Thanks,
Glenn Osborn
